With a Class 4 licence drivers can operate any vehicle in Class 1 and 2, but not Class 3. They can also drive rigid vehicles with a light trailer (including a tractor) over 18,000kg.

Learners

With a Class 4 learner licence, drivers can operate heavy rigid vehicles with a light trailer (including a tractor) over 18,000kg, but must be accompanied by a fully licensed driver.

Drivers must have had their Class 2 full licence for at least six months before applying for their Class 4 learner licence (or three months if they are over 25), unless they complete an approved accelerated training course in which case they can fast track through their heavy vehicle licensing.
