Learn to Ride

Never been on a geared motorcycle?

The Learn to Ride motorcycle course is for beginners with no experience. In groups of two, learn to operate a geared motorcycle with a patient and knowledgeable, professional instructor. At the end of this two-hour course you will be confidently able to:

  • identify and use the controls of the motorcycle

  • start and move off using appropriate clutch and throttle control

  • ride in straight lines

  • ride 90 and 180 degree curves

  • safely stop the motorcycle

Basic Handling Skills Course and Test

Interested in getting your motorcycle learner licence?

The Basic Handling Skills course is a compulsory step required prior to applying for your Learner Licence (Class 6) and taking the theory test with VTNZ. This two-hour course teaches you the skills to confidently pass the Basic Handling Skills test, which is completed the end of the course.

First Step Urban Ride Forever

Just got your Learners motorcycle licence and nervous about riding on the road?

The same excellent Ride Forever Urban rider programme, but targeted to those with zero on road experience, the motorcycle is even supplied. Start your riding career the right way!

Bronze Ride Forever

This course is for riders with a Motorcycle Learner or Restricted Licence (Class 6) who are riding LAMS-approved motorbikes. This course is subsidised by ACC to assist riders to be confident and competent riding their bikes on the road.

Over a day, this course takes riders on local roads, predominately in an urban setting although some higher speed roads may be encountered. It specifically focuses on NZTA's Competency Based Training Assessment (CBTA) competencies and tasks, supporting riders to pass the Class 6 CBTA Restricted or Full Licence assessment.

Silver Ride Forever

This course is designed to assist with taking restricted licensed riders to their full licence, as well as offering ‘returning riders’ a course which will focus on both urban riding and riding in more challenging, open-road environments at higher, open-road speeds.

Gold Ride Forever

This course is designed for those riders who are wanting to learn advanced skills with the fundamental approach of the Ride Forever Syllabus. It includes more technical aspects of riding such as trail braking and counter-steering. It allows for a more focused approach to training by allowing the rider to build their own course content in consultation with the instructor.

Over a day, this course takes riders on local roads, focusing on both urban riding and riding in more challenging, open-road environments at higher open-road speeds.

Competency-Based Training and Assessments (CBTA)

  • Move from your learner to restricted licence with no minimum time required on your learners

  • Gain your full licence after only 12 months

Scooter Survival

This Ride Forever scooter survival course is designed to assist riders to gain crucial skills needed to stay safe when commuting and riding in an urban environment.
